China's Hubei moves to raise rapeseed output
Hubei, China's top rapeseed-producing province, has introduced policies aimed at boosting production of the oilseed, the provincial government said Tuesday (Jul 26).
Starting this year, the government will reward counties with increasing rapeseed area and give farmers subsidies for machinery and seeds, the local agricultural department said.
Hubei plans to increase its rapeseed area by around 9% compared with 2010, to 1.27 million hectares this year, the department added.
The nation's total output in 2011 was around 12.8 million tonnes, according to the state-backed China National Grain & Oils Information Centre, down 2% from a year earlier.
