Kazakhstan to export up to 3,000 tonnes of beef in 2011

Kazakhstan plans to export 2,000-3,000 tonnes of beef in 2011 as domestic demand is fully met by local production, Kazakhstan's Agriculture Minister Asylzhan Mamytbekov said.

The beef export figure is to be brought up to 60,000 tonnes gradually, the ministry said. No exact timeframe has been given.

President Nazarbayev had announced early May that the nation had come up with a programme to increase environmentally safe meat production. According to President Nazarbayev, the programme will enable exports of up to 180,000 tonnes of meat by 2020.
