China sets 10 percent target for animal waste treatment

 
 

China's livestock waste utilization is to rise to 10 percent, according to Vice-Premier Li Peng.

 

Li was speaking at the State Council's first environmental protection meeting for rural areas.

 

The State Council is targeting improved water quality and pesticide pollution prevention as its main focus for environmental protection in rural areas from 2010.

 

Vice-Premier Li Keqiang stressed that environmental protection in rural areas is needed for the country's sustainable development.

 

He said that the focus would be on ensuring water safety in rural areas and further promoting the building of sewage treatment facilities.
