US crops threatened with unfavourable weather

A lethal heatwave taking place in the US Midwest and East Coast is stressing US corn crop with its extreme heat and dry weather.

Prior to this, summer weather in the US and Canada was favourable to crops, following flooding during spring that resulted from one of the snowiest winters on record.

Indeed, high prices for corn caused farmers to disregard wet fields and sow more acreage than had been anticipated because of deluges.

Meanwhile, drought has affected both southern Plains and the Southwest, withering crop in Texas.
