Romanian cereal exports hit US$322.8 million from January-April

 

 

Between January and April 2011, Romania collected EUR224.41 (US$322.8 million) from cereal exports, an increase of about 60% in contrast to the same period last year when exports' value totalled EUR143.32 million (US$206.2 million), according to the statistics submitted to Agerpres by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MADR).

 

The cereals consist of wheat, meslin, barley, corn and rice. The cereals shipped to EU member states and countries out of EU surpassed 731,601 tonnes compared with 831,830 tonnes placed on overseas markets during the same period last year.

 

Romania earned the most from corn exports at about EUR175.62 million (US$252.6 million) for 533,306 tonnes.

 

Corn also occupied the top position in terms of imports at 196,875 tonnes valued EUR65.66 million (US$94.5 million), followed by wheat and meslin, at 189,048 tonnes valued EUR50.46 million (US$72.6), and barley at 13,543 tonnes valued EUR7.55 million (US$10.9 million).
