Spain co-develops EU agri-food chain Observatory to support transparency, fairness in agri-food sector
Spain's Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food recently participated in creating the EU agri-food chain Observatory (AFCO) to improve transparency and fairness in the agri-food sector.
José Miguel Herrero, director general of food, attended the observatory's first meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
AFCO will monitor production costs, margins, and commercial practices to improve farmers' position in the supply chain. This initiative was agreed upon at the EU Council of Agriculture Ministers on March 26 and responds to concerns expressed by farmers in protests in several EU member states.
Spain strongly supports the creation of AFCO and offers its expertise through the Spanish Food Chain Observatory.
The measure seeks to benefit all actors in the sector, from producers to consumers, ensuring fairness and transparency in the European food chain.
