US red meat supplies in cold storage down from May, up from last year


Total red meat supplies in freezers as of June 30 were down 3 percent from the previous month, but up 6 percent from last year, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.


Frozen pork supplies were 975,312, down 9 percent from the previous month but up 11 percent from last year. Stocks of pork bellies were down 14 percent from May but up 60 percent from last year.


Frozen beef in cold storage totaled 431,075 pounds, up 4 percent from May but level with the year-ago figure.


Boneless beef were up 2 percent from May but down 5 percent from a year earlier.


Boxed beef primals including bone-in cuts saw the greatest increase, up 43 percent from last year and up 15 percent from May.
