Algeria's H1 wheat imports up 35% on-year

 

 

Algeria imported 3.97 million tonnes of soft and durum wheat during the six months to end-June, up 35.4% from the year-earlier period, data from the customs authority showed.

 

Soft wheat imports rose to 3.06 million tonnes from 1.94 million tonnes in the first half of 2010 while durum wheat imports fell 6.7 % to 904,798 tonnes, according to the data.

 

France led soft wheat suppliers with 2.15 million tonnes followed by Brazil with 675,097 tonnes.

 

Almost 90% of Algeria's durum wheat imports were also from France, according to the data.

 

OPEC member Algeria is the world's seventh-biggest importer of wheat.
