Russia's meat ban extends to four Australian slaughterhouses

Russia has now decided to ban four Australian slaughterhouses without giving much information.

Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) said Russia has given limited information as to why the temporary bans are imposed but confirmed that the issue is related to microbial contamination of the meat.

MLA said four Australian slaughterhouses, not one as initially thought, are now on Russia's blacklist.

The MLA spokesman said there are now four - not one as initially thought - Australian abattoirs on the Russian blacklist.

Out of the four slaughterhouses, only one processes beef while the others process kangaroo meat.
