Malaysia cuts feed costs to ensure poultry supply
The government of Malaysia is controlling the increasing price of chicken feed in a move to lessen the price of chicken, according to local news.
Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Datuk Seri Noh Omar said chicken feed made up 70% of the cost incurred by poultry farmers. Malaysia is self-sufficient as far as chicken production is concerned and is also exporting poultry meat, he added.
During a press conference he announced that the ministry will meet poultry farmers to ensure supply of chicken in the country is sufficient. The price of chicken has increased to MYR8.50 (US$2.84) per kilo in the past two months in some wet markets compared to about MYR7 (US$2.34) in March due to the spiralling global prices of soy and corn in animal feed.
