India's wheat, pulses production hit record

India experienced a record volume of wheat and pulses output in the 2010-11 crop year from July 2010 to June 2011.

The wheat production in 2010-11 crop year stood at 85.93 million tonnes, while the pulses production for the reported period was 18.09 million tonnes. The record high production comes on the back of good season of rainfall and increase in the minimum support prices for the country's agricultural farmers.

India is estimated to have produced 241.56 million tonnes of food grains in 2010-11, compared with 218.11 in the 2009-10 crop year. The country's wheat production in 2009-10 crop year was 80.8 million tonnes.
