Iranian wheat output to increase

Iran's wheat output will rise to 13.5 million tonnes during the present Iranian calendar year that will stop on March 20, according to the head of plant production for Iranian Ministry of Agricultural Jihad, Majid Khalili Khoshnoud.

"After cutting subsidies, the Commerce Ministry predicted production of 9.5 million tonnes of wheat to meet the country's wheat demand," he said.

By the increase of wheat price on global markets, private sector becomes active in purchasing wheat and barley from farmers.

Iran's unprocessed wheat products exports are predicted to increase by US$4.5 billion this year.

Currently 90% of Iran's food consumption is provided by domestic units, Khalili added.
