EU looks to import Brazilian beef amid rising prices

Brazilian beef may soon return to the EU market as the union looks to mitigate the recent beef price increases.

The EU Commission said it was under pressure from European traders to reduce restrictions on Brazilian beef in order to lower beef prices in the market.

The EU restricted imports of Brazilian beef in January due to deficiencies in Brazil's traceability system.

However, the delegate to Brazil of the Agricultural Commission of the EU Parliament said this might send the erroneous signal that Brazilian beef producers can stop current improvements being made to their food safety and traceability system.
