USDA: Hot weather helping Nebraska corn crop to mature

The USDA says the recent heat wave in the US has helped Nebraska's corn crop to mature, but it is putting added stress on livestock.

The USDA issued its weekly update on the state's crops on Monday (Jul 18).

The department says about 34% of the state's corn crop is now pollinated with silked ears. And about 82% of the corn crop is in good or excellent condition.

The Agriculture Department says livestock producers are watching their animals closely for signs of heat stress. About 84% of the state's pasture and rangeland remains in good or excellent shape.
