Pakistan's chicken prices to remain stable during Ramazan

The Pakistan Poultry Association (PPA) said that it will cooperate closely with the Punjab authority to offer maximum relief to people on chicken meat by maintaining reasonable prices during the month of Ramzan ul Mubarik.

The assurance was given by PPA, North Zone Chairman, Abdul Hameed Mehta during a meeting with PML-N MNA Bilal Yaseen at Civil Secretariat on Thursday (Jul 14). Former PPA chairman Raza briefed the MNA about the price mechanism, availability of chicken during Ramazan and subsidy on it.

He said that last year, the PPA had given subsidy of PKR2-3 (US$0.023-0.035) per kilogramme on chicken to facilitate people, adding that chicken would be available in sufficient quantity throughout Ramazan. He hoped that the rate of live chicken would decrease to PKR120-130 (US$1.40-1.51) from the present rate of PKR160 (US$1.86) and the price of chicken meat would be at the level of PKR180-200 (US$2.09-2.33) from the present price of PKR230 (US$2.67).

He further added the association would give subsidy on chicken in various districts including Lahore, Faislabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Okara, Multan, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Kasur and Gujrat. Mehta said that the next meeting would be held after a week to finalise the provision of subsidy on chicken during the holy month.

MNA Bilal Yaseen said that if they succeeded in providing subsidy of PKR2-4 (US$0.023-0.047) per kilogramme, it would be a big achievement of the Punjab government. He said that the government would not spare those who were creating artificial price hike of essential commodities. All officers concerned attended the meeting.
