Kansas' residents allow to rear chickens

Additional Kansas City residents will be permitted to rear chickens legally in their yards despite having numerous constraints.

Currently, the city allows people to have up to 15 chickens if they are at least 100 feet away from other homes or businesses.

On Thursday (Jul 21), the council agreed to allow exceptions to the 100-feet requirement, if all neighbours within 100 feet sign consent forms.

The media reported that people are still restricted to only 15 chickens. They also must control odour and manure disposal, allow inspections twice a year, and not allowed to sell the eggs in residential areas.

The ordinance, which takes effect in 10 days, includes several other restrictions.
