Ukraine processes almost 10 million tonnes of 2011 grain yield

Ukrainian farmers threshed 9.7 million tonnes of early grain crops and leguminous cultures as of July 14, on 3.4 million ha or 30% of areas planned for harvesting, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry informed.

"For the same date of the previous year, the grain yield made up 6.4 million tonnes. On average, the yield capacity in Ukraine reaches 28.5 centners/ha against 24.3 centners/ha as of July 14, 2011," the ministry says.

Economies, in particular, gathered 3.8 million tonnes of barley on 1.5 million ha (38% of the forecast). The average capacity of this culture is 26.3 centners/ha against 22.9 centners/ha last year. Wheat yield is 5.7 million ha on 1.8 million ha (27% of the forecast) with yield capacity at 31.1 centners/ha, whereas it was 27.1 centners/ha in the previous year.

Besides, the farmers gathered 0.56 million tonnes of rape on 0.4 million ha (44% of the forecast). At the same time, the yield capacity of this culture makes up 14 centners/ha against the previous year's 15.2 centners/ha.

Despite heavy rains in separate regions, the harvesting campaign, in particular, as regards barley, is good in Ukraine, the experts note.
