Belarus sees grain harvest at 8.5 million tonnes in 2011
Belarus hopes to harvest 8.5 million tonnes of grain in 2011, including corn, the head of the central crops department of the Agriculture Ministry, Vladimir Grakun, said on Thursday (Jul 14).
"We kept areas under grain at 2.5 million hectares. Including corn, we will have to harvest from 2.74 million hectares, and this will enable us to harvest an estimated 1.5 million tonnes of grain in excess of last year's level," he said.
Grakun said the year 2011 was tough for grain crops. "I believe we will meet the milling and feed grain requirement," he added.
