Vietnam feed imports rise 10.7% yoy


In the first six months of 2018, Vietnam spent more than US$1.96 billion on importing animal feed - an increase of 10.7% year-on-year.

For June alone, imports from major supply markets such as Argentina, Brazil, the US, China and India, totalled US$350 million.

Additionally, during the first half of the year, Vietnam spent US$651 million, US$321 million, US$287 million, US$24 million and US$18 million on animal feed product imports from Argentina, the US, Brazil, Republic of Korea and Belgium respectively.

In a statement made by Nguyen Xuan Duong, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's Department of Livestock Production, he separately commented on Vietnam's feed output:

"Over the last two decades, Vietnam's animal feed industry has maintained a two-digit growth. Statistics show that output jumped from just 400,000 tonnes in 1993 to more than 23 million tonnes in 2016."

Today, Vietnam is amongst the top ten in the world for feed production.
