Malaysia's Terengganu mulls over shrimp farming bids
Kuala Terengganu's government of Malaysia is considering proposals by at least six investors to start shrimp farming in the state.
State Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Committee Chairman Asha'ari Idris said the investors were from outside Terengganu. "Right now, we're assessing their sincerity and determination. We need to be careful and don't want to be in a haste in making decisions regarding the matter," he said.
To date, he said, only one company had been allowed to breed shrimp in Terengganu, involving 1,000 hectares in Kampung Nyatuh, Setiu.
The company was presently training its workers and expected to start operations in September, he added.
