Japanese-Australian beef trade remain slow

Beef trade between Australia and Japan is still unhurried this week despite reduced operations by Australian meat packers due to seasonal factors and tough market conditions.

Fullset offers were limited, as trading by cuts allowed more flexibility to both Australian exporters and Japanese buyers under the current circumstances.

Imported beef demand in the Japanese wholesale market was mixed this week, as some trade saw improvement in interest, with the end of the rainy season, while others noted the negative impacts on sales due to the radioactive contamination issue.

In the foodservice market, McDonald's Japan commenced a personalised discount system for their registered customers. The company analysed purchasing patterns of 10 million customers, and will offer a discount package suited to individual preferences, such as free coffees for people who frequent outlets on weekends.
