France's Doux shuts 3 poultry plants

French poultry processor Doux has shut down 3 production facilities as it faces major losses.

Doux has closed down a turkey processing plant in Locmine, a duck processing plant in the small town of Pleucadeuc and a broiler processing plant in Chatelet. The closures have led a 647 people losing their jobs.

The company's group management asked staff representatives to open a procedure for informing and consulting on a proposed new industrial organisation of its fresh poultry meat activities in France.

The French market represents 37 percent of the company's turnover therefore it is very important to preserve their market share and to safeguard the fresh poultry activity in France, according to the Doux management.
