Demand prompts building of two new salmon hatcheries in Tasmania, Australia
Higher demand for salmonids has prompted two operators to build hatcheries in Australia's state of Tasmania.
The industry's growth rate in the state is said to be at 15 percent a year.
Salmon farmer Tassal has announced plans for a AUS$16 million (US$15.47 million) hatchery, while Huon Aquaculture has just commissioned a AUS$7 million (US$6.77 million ) plant near Huonville, reports ABC rural.
Huon Aquaculture's hatchery uses a new closed-loop water recirculation system, and will provide one and a half million young salmon a year.
