Ukraine harvests 5.6 million tonnes of grain

Ukrainian grain harvest totalled 5.6 million tonnes as of Monday (Jul 11), according to the country's Agriculture Ministry.

Grain and leguminous crops have already been harvested on an area of two million hectares. The average output amounted to around 2.8 tonnes per hectare, which is better than the same time in 2010 when the yield was about 2.4 tonnes per hectare, the ministry said on Tuesday (Jul 12).

Heavy rains that started in late June, the ministry said, would cut the cereals harvest in some central regions. The ministry estimated that the country's total grain harvest would reach 45 million tonnes this year.
