Ukrainian 2011 harvest to reach 47 million tonnes

The Ukrainian Agrarian Confederation expects the net grain harvest of this year to hit 47 million tonnes, according to the director general of the Confederation Serhii Stoyanov.

"Probably, Ukraine will have 47 million tonnes of grain," he said.

According to him, wheat yields will be 19 million tonnes, barley to reach nine million tonnes and corn to hit 17 million tonnes.

According to the head of analytical department of the consulting company "AAA" Maria Kolesnik, the grain harvest this year may reach at least 47 million tonnes.

"Despite all the extreme weather conditions, Ukraine this year can collect at least 47 million tonnes of grain harvest," she said.

At the same time, she noted that rains that fell in Ukraine in late June to early July were somewhat untimely.

According to estimations of the consulting company, the biggest losses touch upon barley as its harvest will be eight million tonnes.

Speaking about wheat, she noted that it is too early to revise forecasts as the harvest of this crop has not yet begun, noting that the wheat harvest is expected to be 20.8 million tonnes.

Kolesnik also reported it is expected a record from corn crop in fact, a preliminary estimate of 16.5 million tonnes.
