Ukraine premier urges for settling of poultry meat prices

Ukrainian prime minister Yulia Tymoshenko is urging President Viktor Yuschenko to help settle poultry meat in view of unreasonable price inflation on the meat.

Tymoshenko is urging the president to study statistics and find out who is raising poultry meat prices in Ukraine and then prevent artificial unreasonable rise in poultry meat prices.

Tymoshenko said she had tried to persuade poultry meat manufacturers, who she believes are worsening the whole meat market's price situation, to drop prices but failed as they could not come to an agreement on normal market prices.

Last month, Tymoshenko has called on heads of regional state administrations to facilitate poultry meat imports. However on Tuesday (July 8, 2008), the Ukrainian Poultry Union Association notes a high increase of bad quality meat imports and a price increase for domestic products.
