China has lifted the bird flu quarantine in the southern city of Guangzhou on Thursday (July 10, 2008) after no new cases were reported for 21 days.

Trade of live poultry within 13 kilometres of the epidemic area was resumed on Thursday, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

On June 10, an outbreak of bird flu in Xinhui, Jiangmen City killed 3,873 ducks and led to the culling of 17,127 ducks.

The ministry told the local authorities to improve epidemic monitoring and preventive measures for protection against further bird flu outbreaks.

China has reported seven bird flu outbreaks in poultry so far this year, including one in Guangdong Province, one in southwestern Guizhou Province, one in northwestern Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, and three in the southwestern Tibet Autonomous Region.
