A recent research carried out at Bristol University has revealed that organic chickens are less tasty than intensively farmed chickens.
The research, which involved a panel of 10 tasters blind-tasting samples from 120 chickens reared in various ways, said intensively farmed birds have a better flavour and texture.
High ratings were generally given for texture, juiciness, flavour and overall preference for meat from intensively farmed chickens, according to research leader Dr Paul Warriss, who added that the reason may be that intensively farmed chickens are consumed at a much younger age therefore are more tender than older chickens.
This research breaks the common perception that free-range chickens are tastier than standard chickens. However, Dr Warriss do not think his research will impact free-range chickens badly because people often buy free-range birds for ethical reasons.
