India's wheat output to rise 2.6 million tonnes from year-ago

India's wheat production in the crop year ended June 30 may rise to 78.40 million tonnes from an earlier estimate of 76.78 million tonnes made in April, the government said Wednesday (July 9, 2008) in its fourth official estimate of the country's food grains production.

The country's wheat output the previous year was 75.81 million tonnes.

India is also expecting a 17.6-percent rise in oilseed output to 28.82 million tonnes this year.
