Most shrimp farmers in Phatthalung of Thailand stops work
High production costs and rising fuel prices have forced more than 90 percent of shrimp farmers in Thailand's southern province of Phatthalung to stop working.
Over 50 shrimp farmers in Pak Phayun district, Phatthalung have stopped working and some are reducing the number of operating shrimp ponds to two per farmer.
Pradit Sansakhon, a shrimp farmer in Phatthalung, said he had cut his shrimp ponds from seven to one because he could not afford the high production cost.
Shrimp production cost in one pond is more than THB 500,000 (US$15,000).
