Vietnam's meat supply sufficient in H2
Vietnam's animal husbandry industry will supply enough meat for domestic market from July-December of this year, a senior official from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said.
Meat prices are at high level and they encourage local animal raisers to pour investment to develop livestock production, Hoang Kim Giao, head of the Animal Husbandry Department of the ministry said.
Giao urged farmers to select high-quality and free of diseases offspring in order to avoid risks of being attacked by disease outbreak.
Currently, many farmers hesitate in keeping and developing animal breeding due to lack of investment, Giao said.
Giao disagreed with the opinion that high price of animal feed is the main cause that has discouraged local animal raisers, attributing the situation to recent disease and thin supply of animal offspring.
With current prices of animal feed, farmers still can earn a good profit of VND15,000-25,000 (US$0.73-1.21) per kilogramme of live pigs, Giao said.
The surging hoard of meat and animal products from Chinese traders will have small impact on Vietnam's demand-supply balance, said Giao.
By June 30, Vietnam has 26.3 million pigs, 8.5 million of cattle and buffalos and 293.77 million of poultry, down 3.71%, 4.6% and up 5.87% on year, respectively.
Animal feed prices have risen between 14% and 16.8% while prices of input materials for animal feed production rose 18.1-23.7% on year.
