Bulgaria's wheat production likely to be over four million tonnes
As the wheat harvest in the district of Yambol opens, the expected wheat yield will be more than four million tonnes, said Bulgarian Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Svetlana Boyanova, as announced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
"Thanks to the actions of agricultural producers, the effects of the bitter winter and rain showers in May have been overcome and the yield will be higher than initially expected," she said.
According to the information available so far, 10% of the areas planted with wheat and 66% of the land planted with barley have been harvested. The average harvest is 407 kilogrammes of wheat/decare and 360 kilogrammes of barley/decare.
The expected produce of wheat runs to over four million tonnes and that of barley - to more than 700,000 tonnes. They will be absolutely enough to meet Bulgaria's needs and export.
"Although this year's yield will be lower than last year's, there are more areas planted with high-quality grains," explained Deputy Minister Boyanova.
