South Korea: FMD vaccination certificates now mandatory
South Korean farmers dealing with livestock such as pigs which do not have FMD (vaccination) certificates for their animals will not be allowed to do business at livestock markets, as the implementation of the new requirement has already become mandatory.
It has been reported that the livestock market will not see business coming from farmers who cannot produce their livestock vaccination certificates. Also, farmers who do not have the required certificates will not be allowed to transport livestock products to slaughterhouses.
Goats, cattle, and pigs are the livestock which will be affected by the new requirement. If farmers are found without the certificates, they could face a fine of up to KRW5 million (US$4,702).
The requirement of the certificate was implemented on 24 June and has been mandatory as of July.
