China Hog: Prices higher by 35% on-year (week ended Jun 27, 2022)

An eFeedLink Exclusive

Hog supplies were tight, particularly as farmers withheld releases in view of stronger prices. Meanwhile, the government's pork reserves stockpiling lent support to the market.

Slaughter volumes in major wholesale centres decreased 1.4% to 7,374 tonnes while pork carcass prices increased 2.5% to RMB21.75/kg.

On average, hog prices surged 5.1% to RMB17.56/kg, from RMB16.72/kg. Compared with the same period in 2021, hog prices were higher by 35%.

Hog prices are seen firm amid high feed costs and tight availability.
