Drought threatens half of Poland's planted acreage
Drought is threatening 52 percent of Poland's planted areas, daily Rzeczpospolita reported Thursday (July 3, 2008), citing the local Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultiavtion.
According to the daily, the winter wheat crop could be lower by 6 percent on-year, while winter rapeseed crop could fall by 13 percent compared with last year.
The Spring wheat crop could be lower by 19 percent, while sugarbeet crop could fall by 13 percent.
