Koi Herpevirus disease outbreak detected at British fishery
A Koi Herpevirus disease (KHV) outbreak has been discovery at a fishery located in Kent, England.
Defra has issued a Designated Area Order banning the movement of fish to and from Shirkoak Farm, where the outbreak occurred.
Samples were taken from Shirkoak Farm following deaths of fish.
KHV Disease affects common carp and carp varieties but while it can cause high rates of fish mortalities, there are no implications for human health.
Symptoms of the disease include bleeding from the gills, white patches or sunken eyes and it is capable of wiping out up to 95 percent of stocks with no known treatment.
