China to construct aquaculture centre in Uganda
China will be funding the construction of a large aquaculture research and development centre in the Wakiso District of Uganda.
The Demonstration of Aquaculture Research and Development Centre will be completely funded by China, a move to develop ties between the two countries.
The Centre is the first of its kind and will be the biggest in East and Central Africa, according to the Commissioner for Fisheries Dick Nyeko.
"It's going to be a combined demonstration centre including breeding, farming, feeds manufacturing and nutrition as well as training and administration quarters," Nyeko said.
Upon completion, the centre is expected to produce about 500,000 tonnes of farmed fish within the next five years.
