Vietnam swine prices on the downtrend thanks to live swine imports
Swine prices in Binh Thuan province, Vietnam dropped to VND 80,000 per kg as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) approved the entry of imported swine into the country, Sai Gon Giai Phong Vietnam reported.
The Department of Animal Health, under MARD had completed inspections for 500 Thailand commercial swine, the second batch of swine arrivals after a first batch of imported breeding swine two weeks ago.
The importer, Thuy Duong Phat company said a further 1,000 swine will arrive to Dong Hiep Farm in Dong Nai province, with a total of 120,000 commercial swine to be imported into Vietnam from now until end August 2020.
Phung Duc Tien, MARD Deputy Minister said live swine imports must be beneficial to farmers, consumers and distributors.
He added that the ministry will establish favourable conditions to import swine into Vietnam as quickly as possible without limitations.
MARD will stop allowing swine imports once domestic swine production has resumed to normal levels, but the ministry will provide a one month notice beforehand.
