Vietnam aims to become global farm produce processing hub

Vietnam's Prime Minister's directive has set several tasks and solutions for Vietnam to become one of the world's top 10 farm produce processing hubs, Vietnam plus reported.

Vietnam's processing industry has grown at a 5% to 7% annually, increasing its agricultural exports to US$41.2 billion last year. This was 15th in the world and the second highest in Southeast Asia.

Vietnam has 7,500 companies that are involved in agricultural processing.

Experts said for the industry to reach the goal set in the Prime Minister's directive, it must make breakthrough developments and optimise domestic comparative advantages.

Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development will also be working together with other ministries and industries to develop high quality workers. These workers are needed to operate major processing plants in the country.
