Brazil, Russia to discuss resuming meat exports

Brazil, which exports almost US$4 billion worth of meat to Russia every year, intends to be in talks with Russia to reinstate its meat exports to that country, according to the media.

Russia banned Brazilian beef, pork and chicken imports from 15 meatpacking establishments in April, claiming their sanitary control systems were flawed. Ninety more companies were added to their list early in June.

The mission will provide a list of Brazilian meat packing companies that comply with all of the health requirements demanded by the Russians, according to Agriculture Minister Wagner Rossi.
