UK supermarket recalls mislabelled pork products
Co-op, a supermarket giant in the United Kingdom, has recalled a pork product following a label mix-up, Bristol Live reported.
Co-op's products that were labelled "Herby Pork Loin Medallions" have to be withdrawn entirely from shelves and consumers as the products were not what they were labelled to be. The products were instead "Asian Style Pork Belly Slices."
The Food Standards Agency issued the urgent recall as the Asian-style products contain soya, which wasn't on Herby Medallions' ingredients list. FSA is concerned that affected products may reach consumers who are allergic to soya, thus posing a potential health risk.
"Co-op is recalling the above product from customers and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will tell their members about the recall. The company has also issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the product," a FSA spokesperson said.
