Australia resumes boxed beef exports to Indonesia

Indonesia has agreed to allow up to 90,000 tonnes of boxed beef to be imported from Australia under new permit arrangements.

Chair of the Australian Meat Industry Council, Terry Nolan, says it's good news for his industry. He does not believe that the increase in the permit quota is related to the live export suspension.

"Indonesia is a very fickle market, I could go back to the 2008-29 years where there was about 120,000 tonnes. In 2009-2010 it was cut back to 50,000 tonnes, and now it's heading up towards that 90,000 tonnes of permit issued," he said.

"So from year to year, it does change a lot. It's a very sensitive market and it has to do with the internal politics within Indonesia and we respect that," he said.
