Vietnam pig farm receives British certification

Vietnam's Dong Hip pig breeding farm, under the Saigon Agricultural Food Processing and Animal Breeding CO. (Sagrifood), was recently granted by the British Standard Institute (BSI) with ISO 9001:2000 certification.

The farm is the first of its kind in Vietnam to receive the British certificate, which will be valid until May 13 of 2011.

Based in Cu Chi district of HCM City, Dong Hiep is the first farm in the country the Animal Health Department recognized to be free from four porcine diseases including cholera and foot and mouth disease.

Presently, the farm is breeding 18,000 pigs, including 2,500 sows which provide 30,000 piglets and 1,000 tonnes of pork annually.

The Sagrifood is now implementing fresh pig breeding project in the farm with total capacity of 1,000 tonnes of pork in 2008.

ISO 9001:2000 is the standard that provides a set of standardized requirements for a quality management system, regardless of what the user organization does, its size, or whether it is private, or state-owned.
