Hog availability decreased prominently while demand strengthened with the Dumpling Festival approaching. Prices of hog surged for the fourth consecutive week, up by 4.9% compared with the previous week.

Over the past four weeks, hog prices have increased 20% accumulatively.

Hog imports are expected to be inconsistent due to production disruptions of overseas hog slaughterhouses resulting from the Wuhan coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, the rising tension between the US and China raised concerns of trade barriers. Should import volumes fall significantly, prices of hog in China are likely to break new highs amid inadequate availability.
