Russia may export 15 million tonnes of grain in 2011-12

Russia could export up to 15 million tonnes of grain in the 2011-12 agricultural year, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said at an industry congress Thursday (Jun 24).

The country's grain harvest is expected to amount to 85 million tonnes in 2011, Putin reiterated.

Russian authorities introduced the ban on grain exports in August 2010 in an effort to reduce grain prices amid a severe drought. The ban was initially scheduled to end on December 31, 2010, but this was later postponed until July 1.
