Russia's AKS-Holding launches high-tech pig complex in Karelia



Agricultural firm AKS-Holding has launched a US$16 million modern high-tech pig breeding complex in the Karelia region.


The project has reportedly been financed with the company's funds, as well as a loan from Rosselkhozbank.


The complex is equipped with a modern laboratory, feeding house and totally automated feeding system. All the premises have modern energy-saving high-tech equipment. The installed automatic fan system regulated air-flow with the help of computer which holds data on the number and the weight of animals, as well as proper air temperature.


A total of 310 selection pigs and swine have been brought in from France. In the nearest future the number of animals is estimated to grow to 645. The complex plans to breed 12,000 pigs and produce 1,100 tonnes of pork per annum.
