The UN's World Food Programme purchased US$3.77 million of Australian wheat from Glencore Grain BV for shipping to North Korea in July.
The agency purchased 11,505 tonnes of the grain in a tender at US$327.75 a tonne for free-on-board delivery in Port Kembla in New South Wales, WFP food-procurement officer Joop Menkveld said.
The Rome-based agency also bought 1,932 tonnes of Russian wheat destined for Mauritania for US$430.50 a tonne on a cost and freight basis, or US$831,726 in total, from Tiryaki Agro Gida, Menkveld said. The grain is for shipping in July, he said.
