Iran to establish halal abattoir in Uganda

Iran has put in US$40 million to launch a modern halal abattoir in Uganda.

The modern halal abattoir will be established by Iran's Halal Meat, with the support of the Uganda Investment Authority and Zanjan Cooperative Foundation.

The joint venture between Iran and Uganda, aims to improve meat production for local consumption and for export, according to the media.

The first phase of the project venture will be completed in the next 18 months. The project will hire about 120 people, besides helping others from the livestock sector.

In the phase-I, the project targets to slaughter and process 200 cattle, 500 goats and 500 sheep every day. About half of the meat processed will be sold for the local market and the rest for overseas markets.
