Danish Crown acquires SPF-Danmark
The European Commission has approved the acquisition of SPF-Danmark A/S by Leverandørselskabet Danish Crown AmbA, both of Denmark.
SPF-Danmark is active in the market for trading and transportation of piglets and breeding animals in Denmark and abroad, as well as in the market for transportation of slaughter pigs. According to an information posted on its website, it is Denmark's largest supplier of breeding stock, particularly DanAvl stock with "highly declared health status".
Danish Crown specialises in the slaughtering, de-boning, processing and refining of meat as well as in the sale of fresh meat and meat products. It offers pork, beef, veal and organic meat products; and packages fresh meat. It also provides bacon, meatballs, cold meat, sausages, soups, ready meals, and canned products under the Tulip–PåLækker and Livretter, Mou, GØL, Steff-Houlberg and Den Grønne Slagter brands.
The Commission concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns, because of its very limited impact on the market structure. The transaction was examined under the simplified merger review procedure.
