China's June soy imports to reach five million tonnes

China's soy imports in June are expected to rise to five million tonnes, the state-supported think-tank China National Grain and Oils Information Centre said Thursday (Jun 9).

The estimate is 4% higher than the centre's projection of 4.8 million tonnes for May imports, but 19% lower than the imports in the same period of last year.

Since February, China's soy imports have maintained a month-on-month increase, but declined on-year as soy crushing enterprises were not active in production due to negative profit margins and this also caused high level of stocks at ports.

The think-tank predicted that the country's soy imports in the first half of this year would fall on-year.
